Customizable in-car music player that works in single-player and multiplayer.
mod_description
BeastZ Audio Player | B.A.P.
BeastZ Audio Player (B.A.P.) is a customizable in-game music player for BeamNG.drive. Add your own music, organize it into playlists, choose from four interface layouts, tune the sound with a five-band equalizer, and freely move or resize the player without reopening BeamNG's UI Apps editor.
With the optional BeamMP server plugin, nearby players can also hear music coming from your vehicle as positional 3D audio.
Update: I'm waiting on the moderators to approve the forum with the multiplayer server plugin.
I have added the server-side plugin to GitHub.

Adding the player to your UI
1. Install the downloaded ZIP in your normal BeamNG mods folder.
2. Start BeamNG.drive and load into a vehicle.
3. Open UI Apps, select Add App, and add BeastZ Audio Player.
4. Close the UI Apps editor and use the player normally.
Player layouts
Modern: Full everyday player with album art, track details, progress, and quick controls.
Cassette: Tape-deck styling with moving reels, animated VU meters, and retro transport buttons.
Head Unit: Vintage car-stereo design with a digital display, tuner styling, and EQ indicators.
Compact: A low-profile single-row layout that uses minimal screen space.
Open the gear button to switch layouts. Changing layouts does not interrupt the currently playing track.
Customization
Open the gear button to adjust:
Player volume
Transparency
Hue and saturation
Text and icon color
Sync Color for compatible BeastZ UI apps
Shuffle and loop mode
Five equalizer bands: 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 kHz, 4 kHz, and 16 kHz
Playlist and track selection
Appearance changes are shown immediately. Album artwork remains in its original colors while the interface theme changes. Reset options are available for both appearance and EQ settings.
Sync Color with other BeastZ apps
Enable Sync Color (share with other BeastZ apps) in the Appearance section to keep B.A.P.'s theme matched with other compatible BeastZ UI apps.
Sync Color shares these appearance settings:
Transparency
Hue
Saturation
Text and icon color
Sync Color must also be enabled in the other compatible BeastZ app. After both apps have joined color synchronization, changing any shared appearance slider in either app updates the other one immediately.
When Sync Color is enabled, B.A.P. first adopts an existing shared BeastZ color theme if one is already active. If no shared theme exists yet, B.A.P. publishes its current colors for compatible apps that join afterward. The Sync Color checkbox is remembered between sessions.
This setting synchronizes only the local UI appearance between compatible BeastZ apps. It is separate from BeamMP music and playback synchronization, and it does not send colors to other multiplayer clients.
Moving and resizing the player
1. Select the E button to enter edit mode.
2. Drag the player to move it.
3. Drag the lower-right handle to resize it.
4. Move it near a compatible BeastZ app to snap their edges together.
5. Use Reset Size to restore the current layout's default dimensions.
6. Select E again to exit edit mode.
The selected position and size are saved. Cross-app snapping works with compatible BeastZ UI apps; it does not automatically snap to every standard BeamNG app.
The minimize button collapses B.A.P. into a movable headphone icon. Click the icon to restore the complete player at its new location.
Adding your own music
B.A.P. does not distribute commercial music. Add audio that you own or have permission to use.
Adding music with WinRAR
You can add music without completely extracting and rebuilding the mod:
1. Open BAP.zip in WinRAR.
2. Navigate to art/bap/music/.
3. Drag complete playlist folders into this location. Each folder becomes a playlist using the folder's name.
4. Alternatively, open the included My Music folder and drag individual MP3, OGG, or WAV files directly into it. Those tracks will appear in the My Music playlist.
5. Open manifest.json from WinRAR and add the names of any playlist folders you added. Folder names and capitalization must match exactly.
6. Save and close manifest.json. WinRAR will prompt you to update the modified file in the archive; select Yes.
7. Allow WinRAR to finish updating the archive before closing it.
8. Start BeamNG and use Rescan in B.A.P. settings, reload the vehicle with Ctrl+R, or respawn it.
When WinRAR asks whether you want to update the archive after adding or editing files, accept the prompt so your changes are written back into `BAP.zip`.
Extract-and-rebuild method
1. Extract the B.A.P. ZIP.
2. Open art/bap/music/.
3. Add MP3, OGG, or WAV files.
4. Place files directly in the music folder for the Default playlist, inside My Music for the My Music playlist, or create subfolders for additional playlists.
5. List playlist folder names in manifest.json for the most reliable detection.
6. Rebuild the ZIP with art, lua, scripts, settings, and ui at the top level.
7. Replace the installed B.A.P. ZIP.
8. Use Rescan in B.A.P. settings, reload the vehicle with Ctrl+R, or respawn it.
Using BeamNG's Mod Manager
BeamNG can also unpack and repack the mod for you:
1. Start BeamNG.drive and open Mods → Mods Manager. If you are already in a level, open the ESC menu first.
2. Find and select BeastZ Audio Player in the installed-mod list.
3. Select UNPACK and wait for BeamNG to finish extracting the mod.
4. With the unpacked B.A.P. mod selected, use Open in Explorer. If that option is not shown in your version of BeamNG, open the game's User Folder and navigate to mods/unpacked/.
5. Inside the unpacked B.A.P. folder, navigate to art/bap/music/.
6. Copy complete playlist folders into the music folder, or copy individual MP3, OGG, or WAV files into the included My Music folder.
7. Edit manifest.json and add the exact names of any playlist folders you added. Save the file when finished.
8. Close the text editor and any File Explorer windows that are open inside the mod folder. This prevents files from being locked while BeamNG packs the mod.
9. Return to Mods → Mods Manager, select the unpacked BeastZ Audio Player mod, and select PACK.
10. Wait for BeamNG to create the updated ZIP in the User Folder's mods/ directory.
11. Use Rescan in B.A.P. settings, reload the vehicle with Ctrl+R, or respawn it.
Do not manually create an extra folder around the unpacked mod. When packed correctly, opening the resulting ZIP should immediately show B.A.P.'s top-level folders, including art, lua, scripts, settings, and ui.
Example folder layout:
art/bap/music/
├── manifest.json
├── loose_song.mp3
├── My Music/
│ └── personal_track.mp3
├── Rock/
│ ├── song_one.mp3
│ └── song_two.ogg
└── Synthwave/
└── night_drive.wav
This creates the playlists Default, My Music, Rock, and Synthwave.
Example `manifest.json`:
{
"playlists": ["Rock", "Synthwave"],
"song_one.mp3": {
"name": "Song One",
"artist": "Artist Name",
"duration": 187,
"coverUrl": "art/bap/music/Rock/song_one.jpg"
}
}
Playlist folder names are case-sensitive and must match the names in manifest.json. Song metadata keys use the filename only, without the folder path. Metadata and cover images are optional.
BeamMP multiplayer audio
Single-player music playback does not require BeamMP or the server plugin.
BeastZ Audio Player — BeamMP Multiplayer Audio | BeamNG
For multiplayer audio, the server owner must install the included B.A.P. server plugin, and all listening clients must have the same audio files at the same paths. The recommended setup is to distribute the customized B.A.P. client ZIP through the BeamMP server's Resources/Client folder.
B.A.P. synchronizes playback information; it does not stream or upload the music file from one player to another. If a listener does not have the selected file, it is skipped silently on that client.
Remote music is attached to the transmitting player's vehicle as positional 3D audio. It becomes quieter with distance and uses a nearby-vehicle profile with a maximum-distance setting of approximately 15 meters.
BeamMP server installation
1. Copy the included BAP server-plugin folder into the BeamMP server's Resources/Server/ directory.
2. Place the customized client mod in Resources/Client so connecting players receive the same music files and paths.
3. Restart the BeamMP server.
4. Confirm that the server console reports that B.A.P. is ready and relaying bap events.
Expected layout:
Resources/
├── Client/
│ └── BAP.zip
└── Server/
└── BAP/
└── main.lua
Important multiplayer note
Only distribute audio you have the legal right to share. Server owners are responsible for the music included in their customized client pack.
Troubleshooting
The app does not appear in the UI Apps list
- Confirm the mod is enabled.
- Make sure the ZIP is not inside another ZIP or extra outer folder.
- The top level of the ZIP should contain folders such as art, lua, scripts, and ui.
No songs appear
Confirm the files are MP3, OGG, or WAV.
Check that they are inside art/bap/music/.
Add playlist folder names to `manifest.json` using exact capitalization.
Press Rescan, reload the vehicle with Ctrl+R, or respawn it.
Another player cannot hear the music
Confirm the B.A.P. server plugin is installed and loaded.
Confirm both clients have the same audio file at the same relative path.
Move the vehicles closer together; multiplayer audio fades with distance.
Check that the listener's game audio is not muted.
Cover artwork does not appear
Add a valid coverUrl entry to manifest.json for the most predictable result.
Make sure the image is included inside the rebuilt ZIP at the specified path.
If no usable cover is available, B.A.P. displays its default artwork background.
Sync Color is not updating another app
Confirm the other app is a compatible BeastZ UI app that supports Sync Color.
Enable Sync Color in both B.A.P. and the other app.
Make sure both apps are currently added to and loaded in the BeamNG UI.
Move one of the shared appearance sliders after enabling synchronization.
Remember that Sync Color works only between apps on your own local UI; it does not synchronize colors with other BeamMP players.
Feedback
Please leave a comment with any feedback, bug reports, ideas, or suggestions for future updates. If reporting a multiplayer problem, mention whether the server plugin was installed and whether every client had the same music pack.
Thanks, and enjoy the music!
